Top 10 Video Podcasts

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

I commute everyday for about 4 hours. This gives me a load of time to kill. There are various things I keep myself busy with. One of them is watching Video Podcasts. One of the main reasons I like video podcasts is because of the ease of getting new content on my iPod. Basically I just plug my iPod into my PC, and all the new podcasts come down automatically. The next morning i am ready to go. I also have a Pocket PC and PSP which I watch videos on. This involves finding new stuff to watch, converting it to the right format, then copying across. A few more steps than the podcasts.

When I first started out with my iPod, I battled to find any worthwhile video podcasts. So, now that I have have a good variety of podcasts, I am ready to share my bounty with you.

Flash/SWF/FLV embedding problem (Controls and Skin)

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Are you having a problem with embedding of flash files on your site, where the controls/skin isn’t showing, but they do show if you access the SWF directly?

I am not a big fan of Flash. And I have never used it on any of my websites. Unfortunately though, I have been redesigning a website for a friend which has forced me into this realm of Flash Frustration™.  There are about 400 flash videos on this site, so it is impossible to convert them to an alternate format. DAVID KNOWLES explains why he does not regret swapping his British passport for a South African one.

WE need to spend some time reflecting on the last two or three months we have experienced as a nation. Some commentators have called this the “post-Polokwane Syndrome”, after the events at the ANC National Conference in December, the outcome of which many have seen as negative. (more…)

Terrorism Signs

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

In the months following 9/11, there was a big information push from the US Government about being more aware of terrorists/terrorism, and what to do to avoid terrorist actions. One of these information portals was the site http://www.ready.gov. Below are some actual images from the site during this period (I can’t find them there anymore). Here are some possible interpretations as to what they might mean…

Spore, from the creators of the Sims

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Spore will be the next BIG thing. It will be HUGE. Everyone will be talking about this game. From September 2008, the gaming world will change.

The rumours about Spore started around 2003/2004. The enthusiasts in us have been watching and waiting patiently for a long time. Since then there have been loads of delays, but finally a release date has been anounced : September 2008! This is brilliant news, I have already pre-ordered my copy (you can pre-order yours too buy clicking on the link…)

So, what is Spore? Let me break it down for you. It is life. Sort of. You start out as a “Spore”, a single celled entity swimming around in a drop of water. You end up creating an entire race! There is lots in between, but I will do a full article about this soon, detailing the ins and outs of this game. Trust me, it is EPIC!
