Shannon Matthews missing: All a scam

I remember the first news articles, and tv broadcasts about this missing child from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. My heart went out to the mother, Karen Matthew (32) as she came on TV crying about her little girl who went missing. Needless to say after a few weeks of incidents, the whole thing started to feel a little off colour.

Well, the botom line is that this was all a scam...for money and maybe even for some attention. How many people were in on it is yet to be revealed, but I would guess quite a few. Please bear in mind that what is in this article is yet to be proven, and will take an age to go through the justice system before we get all the horrifying details. So take this all with a pinch of salt. It is speculation based on news articles, various publications, and online rantings of Karen Matthew neighbours...

Karen (who has 7 children, by 5 fathers) was getting tired of her younger boyfriend, Craig Meehan (22), and was getting ready to dump him, then get together with his uncle, Michael Donovan (39), the very uncle who abducted/hid Shannon. On the day this was to happen, Karen got cold feet, and decided not to go through with it. However, her daughter had already gone over to Uncle Michaels house. This must have been the point where Karen decided to kick this scam off, telling her daughter to stay with Uncle Mikey.

Well, during the 24 days that Shannon was missing, mommy has caused a right old mess.

• Her boyfriend was sent to jail for possessing child pornography (not sure she was too disappointed by this, saved her the hassle of breaking it off with him).
• Shortly to follow him off to the police station was his mother, and two sisters (for perverting the course of justice).
• After Shannon was found, Uncle Mikey ended up in jail too of course.
• I am sure by the end of this saga their will be many more arrests.

More disturbingly, during the time that Shannon was "missing", various calls were made to the McCann family demanding money from the Madeleine fund as well as emails. Someone also pitched up on the McCann's doorstep one day demanding money to help find Shannon. The McCann's refused, at which point this person said "But I have come all the way from Dewsbury"...as if he just expected them to whip out a wad of cash for him. Chavtastic.

You might be wondering how she got busted...She confessed all to a "Family Liaison Officer", whom she didn't realise was actually a policewoman too.

This whole story is setting some scary precedents. Firstly, how many more of these "abductions" are going to be made up? Secondly and worst of all, people are just going to be more cynical. There already is an air of cynicism surrounding Madeleine McCann's disappearance. Now, people wil be in freefall in accusing future abductee's mothers/fathers of just making it all up "just like that Matthews woman".

How did Karen think she was giong to get away with this? Honestly, hiding your child in a house that belongs to a family member...that lives JUST DOWN THE ROAD from you. Dim witted fool. I think the winner in all this is Shannon, she gets out of her mothers clutches.
