Meet the Step Brothers: Really crap movies

Friday, October 10th, 2008

I grew up loving spoof movies, like Airplane, Hotshots and Spaceballs. I have just finished watching Meet the Spartans. What a load of absolute CRAP. It was so poorly done. It feels like they just threw together a bunch of disconnected scenes, trying to incorporate as much pop culture as possible. It is full of bad imitations of actors and “celebrities”. There was not one laugh out loud moment. The humour was not intelligent. I doubt that even a kid would find this funny. On top of all this, the acting was terrible.

I also wanted to mention another movie I watched a couple of weeks ago, Step Brothers with Will Ferrell. At least this movie gave me a few belly laughs. But ultimatey, I walked out of the cinemea thinking “What the hell was that!!!”. I actually turned to my sister around the half way mark and asked her if I missed something, or if maybe we had taken some drugs before the movie that I forgot about. The movie just changed, and things started happening that were never explained, and never made sense. At the beginning of the movie there is a scene with the blind neighbour that seemed to be setting up a gag to be played out later in the movie, however you never see this guy again! This happens all through the movie. I normally enjoy Will Ferrell movies, and I really wanted to love this one….Don’t get me wrong, there are some hilarious scenes in the movie, but not enough to warrant watching this.

I would love to watch a new spoof movie that is of the same calibre as Airplane. I hear that Spaceballs 2 is in production, I hope this is going to be good. One of my favourite scenes from the original:

Dark Helmet: Fire a warning shot across her nose.
[Warning shot almost hits Vespa's Benz]
Dark Helmet: Careful, you idiot, I said across her nose, not up it.
Crosseyed Gunner: Sorry, sir, I’m doing my best.
Dark Helmet: Who made that man a gunner?
Crosseyed Major: I did, sir. He’s my cousin.
Dark Helmet: Who is he?
Colonel Sandurz: He’s an Asshole, sir.
Dark Helmet: I know that! What’s his name?
Colonel Sandurz: That is his name, sir. Asshole, Major Asshole.
Dark Helmet: And his cousin?
Colonel Sandurz: He’s an asshole too, sir. Gunner’s mate, First Class, Philip Asshole!
Dark Helmet: How many assholes have we got on this ship, anyhow?
[The entire bridge crew, except for one person, stands up and raises a hand.]
Entire Bridge Crew: Yo!
Dark Helmet: I knew it. I’m surrounded by assholes!

Let me know in the comments if there are any other classic spoof movies you remember.
