Robert Mugabe. Evil Personified.

June 29th, 2008

This won’t be a long article, I am not going into all the details. I just want to state a viewpoint. Maybe in the future, I will elaborate and write a more in depth article on this subject. I doubt if I did it now, that it would be unbiased because of my feelings.

I was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia (Harare, Zimbabwe) in 1979. This was around the time Robert Mugage came into power. My family moved to South Africa. The future was a little too uncertain, even then. I love Zimbabwe, it is an amazing country, with amazing people.  Watching the state of affairs over the past 10 years has been heartbreaking for me. I dreamed of a day I would go back to Zimbabwe, and experience a lifestyle there akin to the lifestyle of my memories, and the stories my parents and family told me. Read the rest of this entry »

Where will we go when SA is destroyed?

We are a barbaric nation and we are our own worst nightmare

Author: Nomfundo Xulu

There came a point in my life when I was desperately seeking a domestic worker because I could not cope with my job , my baby and all my household chores.

I went to the advertisement board at a nearby convenience store and took down a few contact details. I called a number of women and set up appointments with six of them.

One of them, a South African , did not pitch up. But she sent me a cellphone message to call her . When I phoned her back, she asked if I could pick her up because she did not have money for transport .

I told her that five other women , who were not South African, had managed to make it to my house at the specified times. One even came with her young child strapped to her back.

This episode, among many others, made it clear to me that, as South Africans, we have an attitude of entitlement. We think that the world owes us something. Read the rest of this entry »

Dad at the mall

June 3rd, 2008

This is one of the funniest jokes I have read in a long time.

I took my dad to the mall the other day to buy some new shoes. We decided to grab a bite at the food court. I noticed he was watching a teenager sitting next to him. The teenager had spiked hair in all different colors: green, red, orange, and blue. My dad kept staring at him.

The teenager would look and find him staring every time. Then the teenager had enough, he sarcastically asked, ‘What’s the matter old man, never done anything wild In your life?’

Knowing my Dad, I quickly swallowed my food so that I would not choke on his response; knowing he would have a good one.

And in classic style he did not bat an eye in his response.

‘Got drunk once and fucked a peacock. I was just wondering if you were my son.’

Pictures of moments frozen in time: how you would describe any photograph I guess. But these are true classics.

I know these pictures have done the rounds, I have received them by email many times now over the years. However, I still get a good laugh everytime I see them. So, in the unlikely even that you haven’t seen them…or if you just wanna have a look at them again, here you go.
